Creating a numberline in Storyline

Jul 31, 2014

I want to be able to create a number line where there are missing numbers that the learner drops in?

Any ideas?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi Helen,

Welcome to the community

I thought I"d take a stab at this, although I may not at all be thinking what you were thinking!

I did this with a pick one quiz. If you're new to Storyline, this may look complicated, but once you get comfortable with this workaround with a Pick One, you'll probably use it a lot!

Onstage Objects:

  • 5 Text boxes
  • 2 shapes for the "drop target"
  • An oval for "the number tray"
  • A line for "the number line"
  • The instructions text and the "number tray" text box

Offstage Objects:

Two buttons which will be used to indicate correct and incorrect layers

States

I added the Drop Correct and Drop Incorrect states to the number 2 and number 4 text boxes. These are the two boxes that will be dragged.

Triggers

These triggers are what turn this into a Drag & Drop:

  • Change the state of Text Box 2 to DropCorrect when the user drops Text Box 2 on 2 target.
  • Change the state of Text Box 2 to DropIncorrect when the user drops Text Box 2 on 4 target.
  • Same thing for Text box 4, but you need to adjust accordingly.

These triggers are what tells SL whether to indicate correct or incorrect for the quiz:

Change the state of Button Correct to selected when the user click the Submit button if the state of Text box 2 AND the state of Text box 4 = DropCorrect

Change the state of Button Incorrect to selected when the user click the Submit button if the state of Text box 2 OR the state of Text box 4 is not equal to DropCorrect
