Different feedback based on number of attempts

I included some basic multiple choice questions in my SL2 course. I want to be able to provide different feedback based on how many times the learner attempted to answer. Basically give them hints when they struggle with the question - i.e. on their 2nd or 3rd incorrect attempt (though I hope they won't get to that stage). Is there a way to achieve this please? We can only have 1 incorrect and 1 correct feedback, as far as we can see at the moment.
