Displaying Previous and Next buttons on quiz review

Jun 29, 2022

About a month ago, I published a Storyline quiz to the 360 review site. The results slide includes a Review button, and upon review the slides have the < and > buttons to move through the questions even though those buttons aren't visible when learners take the quiz. Great! That's exactly what I want.

Today (after upgrading to Build 3.65.28121.0), I republished the same quiz to the review site. I did make some changes to the file, but I didn't change anything with the question slides themselves or with the navigation.

When I review today's version of the quiz, it displays the first question as expected. But there's no > button so I can navigate to the next question--it only allows me to review that one.

It looks like the previous version allows space for the player, even though I'm not using the player in my project. In the current version, the slide itself expands all the way to the bottom of my browser window.

I know the last two releases have included some changes to quiz review--do I need to change a setting to see the nav buttons now? Or is this just an unfortunate result of the (otherwise awesome!) changes? I don't want to display the navigation buttons when learners take the quiz--I only want them available upon review. Is this still possible?

Hi, Sheila!

Nice investigative work on the player controls! I'm happy you were able to get that working for you with that work around. I have a few questions before we rely on that work around to get the result you want.

1. Are the player controls in the project file turned on (Menus and controls = On)?

2. Are you experiencing this when previewing the course too?

3. Would you be willing to share your project so we can troubleshoot?

Thanks for the update!

Thanks for the response, John. Here are the answers:

1. Yes, Menus & Controls is set to On.

2. Yes, it also happens when previewing locally.

3. "Sanitized" project file is attached.

I did change the colors of the Correct/Incorrect feedback on the review slides in the updated version (so happy to have that feature!). I wondered if changing back to the standard colors would make it work the way it used to, but I wasn't curious enough to test it. :)

Thanks for your help!

Hi, Sheila!

Good news! I solved your navigation issue! The navigation controls are turned off in the slide properties (bottom right of the screen). Just check the boxes in the slide properties menu to turn them on!

When you click accessibility controls, it makes the player larger so the button appears, which also allows the arrows to appear.

I hope this helps you out!

Hi, Sheila.

As John mentioned, when you turn on the accessibility controls option, it forces the player to show controls, which allows the Prev/Next arrows to appear in Review.

This is needed since you use a custom Submit button without navigation options. Another workaround would be:

  • Check the player submit button for ANY of your questions (you can do that for only one question, and it would still work, even if that question is not one of the ones randomly selected from your bank).

I hope this helps!
