Does it matter what layer an audio file is on if you don't want it to play when someone revisits the slide?

Sep 13, 2021

I will admit I am learning Storyline 360 as I am working on a Quiz project.

I used the Quiz Maker and imported the quiz into Storyline, so each question and the answers are on the base layer and those triggers set up correctly. I have several audio files and triggers set up for each slide and most of the layers for each slide. For example an audio file that reads the question at the beginning of the timeline on the base layer for each slide. Also on the base layers are audio files for each answer, with triggers to stop or play the answers based on the user's choice.  On the review layer, there is only one audio file and there is a trigger to play that file when the timeline starts on that layer.  My difficulty comes upon revisiting the slides. I looked through this forum and tried setting the t/f variable and setting that trigger sequence up to only play the question audio if the value was false, and for the most part, that is working. I set up the same thing on the review layer, but it plays every time on revisit.  (I also tried setting the save the state on revisit) for the slide properties, but that didn't resolve it either. I really think 1. I made it difficult, (I seem to always take the hard way.) and 2. I don't know Storyline well enough to navigate as much as I want to and so, sometimes I half-way fix things... Does any of this make sense? How would I go about sending you a couple of slides so you have the chance to see what type of mess I have created?

Hello Teena!

Thanks for sharing your project! From the look of your project, you'll need more triggers to determine when the audio plays. I've attached a project with audio that plays on the Review slide on the first visit. After that, the audio doesn't play.

Let me know if this is what you're looking for or if I'm off-base!

Thanks for sharing, but I don't see any triggers set for slide 1 except for the one submit the answer. I know that I am missing triggers, I just don't know how to phrase them so that the trigger works for the question on the base layer, (I think I got that one) with one for the review layer. I either can't get it to play at all, or it always does on revisiting a slide from the menu, or the previous button.

Hi Teena!

On the first slide, the audio will play automatically. I could've added another trigger to Play Audio when the Timeline Starts on the slide but it's not necessary since the audio is controlled when the Review layer appears.

I've recorded a quick screen recording to explain how the course is behaving on my end and a quick solution.

Let me know if you have additional questions!
