Drag and drop activity item not returning to start point if dropped outside correct drop target

May 11, 2023

Hi there,

I'm having an issue with a drag and drop activity, you can see it here: https://360.articulate.com/review/content/af97f48d-c482-4ff2-89fb-e2b284e6661f/review

When the item is dropped to the incorrect drop target it is not returning the item to the starting point. Even thought I have "Return item to start point if dropped outside: a correct drop target" ticked. Any advice on working this out?

Hi Better Health Company!

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your Review 360 link! Sorry to hear you are having issues with your drag-and-drop items snapping to the center of the incorrect drop target! I'd be happy to help!

We are actively monitoring a bug that causes the drag-and-drop feature to malfunction. However, a helpful first step would be determining if your project file is affected by the same one.

Would you be willing to share a copy of your .story file for testing? You can attach it here in the discussion or privately through a support case. We'll delete it from our system once troubleshooting is complete!

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello, I've run into the same issue - I want my drag items to return to the start position if it's placed incorrectly, but it doesn't work. Instead, it snaps to the incorrect target and changes its state to Drop Incorrect. I've tried to remove the states Drop Correct and Drop Incorrect but it didn't help.

Did you have any success resolving this issue? Could you advise me how to make it happen that once the drag item is dropped incorrectly it returns to the start point?

Thank you!

Hello Alžběta,

Happy to chime in!

You'll want to make sure that you have the correct settings applied in your Drag and Drop Options, as shown in the screenshot here:

In the attached file, you'll see that with the options shown in the screenshot, dropping the circle outside of the square will result in the circle snapping back to its default location.

If this isn't the behavior that you're experiencing, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!

Hello Jennifer,

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing this issue as well. If you already have the latest version of Storyline 360 installed, please share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a look at how your drag and drop interaction is setup. We'll delete it when we're done testing.

Hi Keegan!

Sorry to hear you've also hit this snag with drag-and-drop interactions!

Just wanted to share that if your .story file contains sensitive information, you're welcome to share it with our support engineers privately. They would be willing to sign an NDA as well. We also delete customer files from our system as soon as troubleshooting is complete!

In the meantime, I've linked this discussion to the bug report so you can be notified as soon as a fix is in place.
