Drag and drop items do not return to scrolling box

Jan 09, 2013

Hi!

I've developed a drag and drop interaction that asks the learner to drag selected answers for two items. One of the lists of  choices is very long (20+ items) so I had to place it in a scrolling box. Making a single selection seems to work fine, but if the learner makes an selection then changes their mind and wants to select a different item from the scrolling list, the initial selection doesn't return to the scrolling list. Instead it snaps to the top left hand corner of the slide.

I have checked off the selections to have only one item in the target and to snap the original objects back to their starting positions. Am I missing something?

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. The slide I've attached is really rough ... I wanted to make sure the functionality would work before I built all the necessary layers and synced the timing. I've actually got a couple of slightly different versions of this slide in my presentation. But, they're all set up the same way.

Any insight or tips you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Krista!

Thanks for the file! I think I may have found the problem for this. I'm attaching my modified version, see if this works for you.

What I did:

I took a look a the settings for the drag and drop, and I noticed that it was set to only allow one drop object. In doing so, it wasn't stacking the drop objects on the target. If you take a close look a the original file, they're stacking off to the top left, behind the captioning. This is why they aren't snapping back if you try to put them back to their original position. If you un-check that option, it will allow multiple objects to stack on the target and it seems to solve the snapping issue.

Let me know what you think!

Hi again!

Unfortunately, your fix won't work as I only want there to be one answer in the drop site at any given time. What I want the learners to be able to do is to put an answer at the drop site, then if they want to change it, just drop a different answer there, and have the original answer snap back to the list ...

Is this even possible? It works on the column that isn't in the scrolling box...

Hi Krista,

I totally understand. Sorry that doesn't work for you. It seems like it may be an issue with the scrolling panel, itself. As I mentioned before I know we had a recent bug report for another issue similar to this, but it's not quite the same. The snapping wasn't the issue. Would you mind submitting the original project file to our support team? They'll be able to test the file and see if we need to investigate this, or if there's another alternative for a workaround.

Also, please share the case information with me so I can follow the progress. If it is a bug, I'll update this thread. If it's not, or there are any workarounds for this issue, I'll be able to share it for anyone else that experiences the same issue.

Thanks very much Krista!

Christine
