Drag and Drop Major Issue :(

May 14, 2013

Normal 0 false false false oNotPromoteQF /> EN-US X-NONE X-NONE ontGrowAutofit /> I have a quiz that contains Drag and Drop questions.  This is creating an issue in the published output.  When I drag items, they get back to the original place, even though I have not enabled that setting.  It happens very randomly and after multiple tries I am successful when I very carefully drag the item and drop it equally carefully.  Here is a screenr explaining the problem - https://player.vimeo.com/video/204929803

I have done quite a bit of testing myself and have done some changes as well to the entities but all in vain.  Here are the things that I have tried:

1:  Originally the objects to be dragged were grouped elements - an image + text box.  I thought may be its a function of grouped objects so I changed the grouped object to an image so that I am dragging just one object - an image.  The problem continued.

2:  Originally the image of the drop container had a shadow to it.  Assuming that may be the shadow is creating issues - probably the boundaries of the bins are overlapping, I removed the shadow from the image and kept the images such that their boundaries do not overlap with each other.  This also did not help.

Here is the screenr with the problem repeating even after implementing the fixes - https://player.vimeo.com/video/204929820

Has anyone else experienced such an issue?

I love the drag and drop interaction and would definitely would like to use it.  According to how I am using it, I do not think that I am doing anything out of the ordinary with it.  So why is it not working?

Please help.  I have attached the story file of the quiz as well.  Please note the following features about the quiz:

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

 1.  All Slides except 1.3 & 1.5 below - grouped entities and shadow in the bins.

  2.  Slide 1.3 - Q1B - I changed the grouped entity to an image.

 2.  Slide 1.5 - Q2B - I changed the grouped entity to an image and I changed the bin images as well so that there is no shadow on the image.

Anxiously waiting for your response.

Hi Payal! I hope you're doing well :)

Thanks very much for the information, the screenr and the file.

I took a look and I experienced the same thing - I noticed this issue mostly on the second and third drag-and-drop interactions. The first didn't seem to have as much trouble, for some reason.

On the second drag-and-drop interaction (slide 1.5) I inserted two hotspots over the bins. I assigned the same correct and incorrect responses in the question and tested it out. This seems to have eliminated the issue for that particular slide.

Now, I'm not sure if it's an issue with the original image for the bins, or even the drop images, but hopefully this option will work for you.

I'm attaching the modified version of your file, so you can take a look.

Thanks!

Thanks Christine for responding to my query.  For some reason I did not get a notification for the response and hence the delay in my response.  Actually I got a response from your QA group and the fix they recommended was sooooooooooooooo simple.

Basically the drop target image that I was using was TRANSPARENT.  And that is what created an issue.  It appears that by design drop target images should NOT BE TRANSPARENT.  Now as soon as I made these images opaque, the drag and drop interactions worked like a charm.

As I said this was sooooo simple but I wish this were written down somewhere in the knowledge base or training videos for drag and drop interactions.  I would suggest that this little bit be added in the instructions so that souls such as me do not make such a mistake.
