drag and drop with motion paths or scrolling panels

Hi,

I was playing around with David Anderson's Healthy Food Choices interaction. I wanted to add more food choices that the user could experiment with to build different meals. I have only made the apple and banana draggable in the attached file to test.

The first slide I tried using relative motion paths triggered to left and right buttons to show more foods. However, when dropped they continue moving, eventually off the plate.

The second slide I tried using a grouped rotated scrolling panel to view more foods, but when the item is dropped it can't be put back.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?
