Embedded Video in Storyline - Need it to allow for rewind and pause but NOT forward

Feb 07, 2024

Hi all.

I have an embedded video in Slide 2 of a Storyline file. I haven't figured out a  way to allow the user to rewind and pause but not advance.

We are concerned about users skipping the video so I've locked down the Next button. Then I hid the video navigation controls but had to bring them back in because we want them to rewind and pause. So a user can still advance a video to the end but be stuck on Slide 2.

What I haven't been able to figure out is how to add navigation controls that allows rewind but NOT advance on the video player control. Am I out of luck?

Hi Frances!

It sounds like you're trying to prevent a learner from advancing through a video in your Storyline course.

I see that you've opened a support case and shared your file privately. Smart move! It looks like my colleague Johnrey is handling your case and replied to your e-mail with steps to follow. I'd suggest giving those a shot to see if that does the trick!

If you run into any setbacks moving forward, feel free to reconnect with Johnrey through your support case.

Hi Frances,

You have a few options. You could use a timeline trigger that does not allow the student to advance until they reach the end of that slide. With your embedded video if you are using one of the default built in playback bars you can turn off the next button for that slide: look at the slide in story view, Slide Properties and uncheck "next".
