Embedding an interactive Google Map
Jan 16, 2013
Hello community. I would like to embed an interactive Google map into my Storyline project and am running into some issues. What I am looking for is having a portion of the screen be an interactive Google map, while some text and other objects are presented explaining information about the location.
For example, lets say the location is 244 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10001. I can get the URL for the entire map which is https://maps.google.ca/maps?hl=en&q=244+5th+Avenue,+New+York,+NY+10001&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x89c259a615595747:0xafa42844a5f4ef8f,244+5th+Ave,+New+York,+NY+10001,+USA&gl=ca&ei=Xgz3UK-sDKm90AHoxoGICg&ved=0CC4Q8gEwAA
I dont want all the extra frames, just a small portion of the map.
The next thing I tried was clicking the link button towards the top left corner which brings up this;
This is exactly what I am looking for but the embed code is not working for me as it cannot be directly entered into Storyline.
So my question is, how can I do this? Do I need to execute some Javascript? If so can anyone assist with that?
Thank you in advance.

Hi Joe, Tracy Parish had a neat trick to get a youtube video to display nicely in Storyline. Maybe it will work with google maps as well.
Check out her screener //www.screenr.com/bHW7 (it is the popup option)
I have no idea if it will work but if it does, let us know.
Nancy thank you so much for posting that link, it gave me the solution. Simply using the Insert -> Video -> Video from Website worked! I copied the Google Map embed code and pasted it into the following field;
I think Storyline needs to change the name of the this command to "Embed Web Object" as it doesn't matter if it is a movie or not.
Thanks again!
That's awesome, Joe! And thanks for the link, Nancy! This is great to know.
Hello, I'm having the same problem as Joe, but when I click the referenced link for a solution, I receive an error. Does anyone know if there is a new link or can someone help me? I have an embed code that I want to add to SL that is not a video. Thanks.
Hi Donna. Did you try pasting the embed code through the Insert -> Video -> Video from Website.
Yes, that's what I tried first. It didn't work for you either, right?
Actually it did. What exactly are you tring to embed? Can you provide the code?
Thanks Joe
Here's the code, and I've attached the error that I receive when I try to add to SL. I pasted the code into a sandbox and it came up beautifully, so there's nothing wrong with the code.

Is this infographic interactive? If not you could save the image from the website and then insert it into Storyline as a photo.
No, it's not interactive although I'm not sure what you mean by adding as a photo. I tracked Tracy down and sent her an email. Hopefully she will respond with a new link to her tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to respond Joe.
If you go to http://www.copyblogger.com/grammar-goofs/ and right click on the infographic you can select Save Picture As...
then in Storyline go to Insert -> Picture
Yeah, I was thinking about the size and completely forgot about the scrolling panel. Great suggestion. Thanks Joe!
Joe - can you share the final output with us...even if it's just a screen capture. I just received a project and it's very similar to yours.
Thanks in advance.
This still works!
Insert -> Video -> Video from Website
the insert as video from website works!! I just did it and it's friggin awesome!
