Feedback Master puzzling me

Dec 20, 2013

Hello,

I'm editing Feedback Master and I wonder what Storyline relies on to know what layout does what and inside each layout what field will display information. Is it the layout name ?

If I deleted

What puzzles me is that you can add additional layouts where I thought you would be restricted to Correct / Incorrect / Review...

I hope you understand what I mean...

Here you can see the problem :

I altered the Master Feedback and I expected Layouts to match master but I only got the shape to move and one of the placeholders. How can I apply Master layout to Layouts ?

Plus, I need to alter shape color according to feedback (green, red...) and it's the only item I can't alter in layout !

Need help, please !!

Hi Pierre:

Create your master feedback slide layouts the way you want. Do anything you need to do.

Once created, go back to your story view and select the feedback layer (in the lower right of SL) your want to replace in a question.

Next, single right-click the slide thumbnail on the left of SL and select layout to see your new feedback master get applied to the layer.

The logic in in the built-in triggers.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for your explaination Dennis !

I followed your instructions and that point is clearer now but...

I still don't have my layouts correct as placeholder edits in the master change nothing in the layouts (see my screen capture)...

I discovered that you can't delete Correct, Incorrect... layouts. OK, but how can I get elements to position like Master feedback ? I just don't get it...

Hi Pierre,

From your image, I'm not certain I'm following which placeholders you've included. Layouts inherit all the properties of their feedback master and you can customize each layout to display content in a specific way, so elements such as background color, font, etc. are transferred across the layers, but for items like placeholders you'll want to adjust those on the individual layers. For more information on working with feedback masters I'd suggest reviewing this tutorial.

Pierre: I apologize, but it's difficult to understand what you are wanting the Feedback Master to do. Feedback masters are a little tricky.

If you want your correct feedback to be green, you could copy (command + a) your master and then paste it into the blank layout at the end of the feedback masters. Rename it correct_green or whatever. Repeat basic procedure for incorrect/red format.

Then, to select it, you'll have to (as Dennis mentioned above) go to Slide View, select the appropriate layer, and then go over to the thumbnail of the slide on the left, right click and select the appropriate layout ( correct_green) for instance. I've attached a quick mockup, if it helps at all. Best of luck, Daniel

Hi,

Thanks for your answers. I'm going to try to make things clear.

Daniel, thanks for your example, it's close to what I'm trying to achieve but the problem is it won't apply automatically .

Here's a better screenshot on what I did and expected :

As you can see, I just moved and resized elements that were in the default Feedback Master (incorrectly named Slide Master here, sorry).

I was expecting everything to move in the Layouts, but as you can see, only the shape moved according to the master and it's locked when I expected the exact opposite (text locked in place, shape editable).

What's the point of the Feedback Master then ? Why is that common elements to the Master and Layout don't move ?

Hi Pierre,

The feedback master slide would allow you to do some global changes that would impact all the layouts, but since the "Correct and Incorrect" layouts have their own properties and set ups, you'll need to adjust those on the individual layouts. Based on the image you shared here, I set up something similar in Storyline, and once I set it up on the feedback master, I could copy it into the individual layouts.
