Fonts fonts and more fonts

Help!
Finding interesting but professional looking fonts has been a real challenge for me. I will come across a font that I really like in another course but then I cannot find it when I go to the one of dozens of free online font sites such as dafont, 1001freefonts, freefonts.com. I spend what feels like hours scrolling through font styles and download them only to find out they are nothing like what I need. What I want is a font that matches exactly to one that I found in another course or website.
So, how do you all go about finding fonts that work for you? I would pay for one I really like. How do you match a font to one you found in another course. Even with the sneak preview option in the font sites, so far I haven't been able to match the font I am looking for.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Michelle

To address a small part of your post, here is a tool that I've had some luck using when trying to identify a font - http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
I've not used the forums, but supposedly it is very active and good at identifying fonts as well...
You can download fontface ninja!
