What happened is that my computer crashed and I lost all my data, including my storyline project. I did, however, upload and host the published files in my Google Drive. Is there a way to go from that published file back to one I can edit in storyline? It's so sad to see all my work sitting online and not able to build off of it.
You can likely recover some of the images used from the published folders. Storyline will have renamed them all but they will be in the "story_content" folder as JPG files. If you had videos or audio files they would be there also. You'd still need to rebuild everything though.
Hi, John -- Thanks for reaching out and sorry to hear of your troubles! Have you tried the following steps to see if there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files? Here's how to check:
1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

I'm afraid the news isn't good. You can't remake a .story file from the published content. Not without starting from the beginning and rebuilding it.
Is there a way to get back some of the slides or is it all unusable in
Storyline once it's published?
