HELP! Can't edit my base slide

I have a slide with 10 layers. My base slide, the one that shows up in the Story View, now has faded images of my layers - which I can't hide. The base slide shows the correct images in the top portion of the timeline, but I can't get to them to edit them.
My layers show the base layer objects in the bottom half of the timeline.
How do I get my base slide back to its original state? I thought about duplicating the base layer and then deleting the original base layer - but that doesn't seem to be an option.
This happened AFTER I updated the software today. Have never seen this happen before.
What do I do??

Never mind. I figured it out. One of my layers was visible when I was viewing the base slide. Had never had that happen before and it freaked me out!
