HELP! optimal system requirements - Storyline is SLOW

Apr 28, 2014

Hi,

I know what the official minimum requirements are, but if my projects are more than about 70 slides, the program runs so slowly that it takes 3 minutes to save, it crashes a lot, and when I type, it spits out one letter per second. Everything is 10 times too slow. Is there a  way to fix this? My current PC's specs:

Dell Latitude 6430u laptop

Windows 8 Enterprise

Intel Core i7-3667u CPU @ 2.00 GHz   2.50 GHz  (I don't know why it lists two speeds)

8 GB RAM

64 bit operating system, x64 based processor

I don't have a ton of programs running at start-up, and I have a lot of free hard drive memory. I've also run it with no other programs open, and it still hates me.

I've thought of possibly creating each new scene in a new file and merging them all at the end, though I'm not sure you can do that, and obviously it's not the best solution.

I'd appreciate any help! I don't want to have to switch out this computer for another one that has other issues.

Thanks,

Kristin

Hi Kristin,

Sorry to hear about the trouble!

First, please make sure that you're working with a local project file when you modify or publish your project. If you're working on a network drive, or any other external storage, that might be causing the trouble.

  • Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.
  • You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).
  • Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names (this includes spaces and underscores).

Additional information regarding "Naming Files, Paths, and Namespaces" in Windows operating systems can be found in the following Microsoft article.

Please make sure you're running the most recent version of Storyline. Articulate Storyline Update 5 includes bug fixes, performance improvements, and HTML5 output enhancements. Click here for details.

If you're already working locally with your Storyline project files and you've updated, it may help to run a quick repair:

Also, I recommend checking your DPI settings, if you haven't already. The comment on the text delay makes me wonder if this may be part of the trouble.

Let me know if you still have trouble.

Thanks!

Hi all,

Just posting this for you or anyone else searching for this issue. I had the same problem on a i7 laptop with 16GB of RAM and a high-performance ATI graphics card. Even the simplest slide was sluggish when interacting with objects on the slide. I accidently fixed the problem when I recently updated my graphics card drivers.

I think there must have been driver optimisation issue with older drivers. Not a guaranteed fix, but updating to latest graphics drivers has worked for me.
