hide a layer when revisiting the base layer

I have a layer float in on my base layer (calling it main menu) instructing users to click text boxes to see explanations for steps in a process (basically telling them how to use the slide to get info). Users will then click text boxes on the main menu to be brought to a new layer with information and a button to bring them back to the main menu when they are done. How do I prevent that instruction layer from coming up whenever the user returns to the main menu? They only need to see the instructions once and then will know what to do.
thanks!

Hi Lyndsey! Is this layer float in triggered somehow? I would simply add a variable to the mix so that it would not display on subsequent visits. If you need us to take a peek, please feel free to share your .story file.
