Hoverstate is blocked by text box, but only sometimes

Nov 30, 2022

Hey there.

I'm having trouble with the hoverstates and click-availability on some of my buttons (picture-files with added click-properties and text-boxes manually set on top - they are not made with the button-preset).

They all have the same settings, same states and same triggers. They all continue to the same type of material (layers or slides), but there is a difference between them that I can't figure out how to correct.

For some of them I can hover and click on the entire picture, as if the mouse ignores the text-box, and I can click the entire picture, despite the text-box being on top. This is my desired result. But: for others the text-box seems to block the ability to hover and click, despite having the exact same setup as the ones where this doesnt happen.

Can any0ne help me out?

I have attached a screenshot of the the two outcomes and a projectfile with the slides affected.
The issue appears at slides:
2.11 (top left works, the rest have the issue)
2.12 (top left and bottom left works, top right and left right have the issue)
2.14 (same as 2.11)
2.15 (same as 2.12)

Hi, Anders,

I did some testing on slide 2.11. Very strange behavior. I did find that if I copied and pasted the "good" text box, it would work on top of the other button images. But I don't know why. It sure looks to me like the text boxes have all the same settings.

That sort of "unexpected behavior" can be reported directly to the Articulate staff. To help them out, I suggest you make a copy of the file with just one of the slides that has problems. You can submit cases here: https://articulate.com/support/contact/360-teams

FYI: You could avoid having multiple objects by doing this using the Format Shape options:

  • Set the text box to "Do not autofit," and then adjust it to the desired size.
  • Fill the text box with the picture.
  • For extra states (such as Hover), you can either add effects or use a different picture for the fill.

I did this in the attached file. For the Hover, I just added a glow effect. But if you wanted the image with a different color outline (or even a different color for the entire image), you could just fill the text box with that image.

Thank you for this tip Judy !
It will help me alot in this project :)  I have used the picture fill in another project, but I thought it only worked as fill for the build-in shapes.

I will change the boxes in this project by using that method, and I will report the case to Articualte as well.

Have a nice day.
