How to setup a randomized quiz with 30 questions out of a pool of 50.

May 12, 2020

Hi there, I am sure someone can help and has an idea. I am new to articulate so probably I have missed some of the functionality in storyline.

What I am trying to do ist the following:

I have a bunch of 50 questions structured with subgroups and each subgroup has between 5-10 questions assigned.  In my former LMS system I could set this up like, create a questionaire and  take 30 questions in total and from every subgroup take 2-4 questions to fill up the 30. All questions would be taken randomly. What I ve been told now to do in storyline, is to build for each subcategory a question banc and then fill the questions in the banc to each category. Fine but when it comes to the quiz, how would I tell storyline to take randomly 30 questions out of the pool and mix them randomly. Second how can I setup a Summary screen at the end which automatically reflects the percentage of achieved correct answers. And finally how can I tell storyline that the percentage is 70% and not 80% which is in the most templates..

thank you!

Hello Thomas and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for contacting us and sharing what you would like to create in Storyline. It looks like you are using Storyline 360, so I'll provide instructions for that software.

You can certainly create Question Banks within Storyline:

Understanding Question Banks

You will need each sub-category to have it's own question bank and choose the number of questions from each:

Drawing Slides from a Question Bank

80% passing is the default set in Storyline 360, but you can change this as well in your Result Slide properties:

Define the Passing Score

Let us know if you have any additional questions.
