Howto align a motion path exactly horinzontally?

May 24, 2019

My problem is, I cannot align a motion path in right or left direction exactly horizontally. In the end the moved object is always jumping after a repeat. When I use ctrl-shift and mouse to enlength the path it is aligned horizontally, but now it's quite difficult to position the path length in such a way that the object does not overlapping after a repeat.

I'm familiar with motion pathes in PowerPoint and it's easy to handle, pick start and end point of the motion path and position by mouse or by xy coordinates.

It seems to work in Storyline 360 but not in Storyline 3 which we are using. Is there any solution for my issue?

Hi Werner,

Unfortunately I have only used Storyline 360 and so I may be suggesting something that you can't do in Storyline 3, in which case I apologise.

When you first add a motion path, if you go to the Path Options and select Right or Left for the direction, you will automatically create a horizontal motion path. If you then use the Size and Position settings to the right of the Path Options button, you can set the length of path that you require (this may need a bit of tweaking to get the result you are after, but it will give you single pixel accuracy).

If you already have a motion path that you were trying to get horizontal, but isn't quite right, if you select the motion path and then select Left or Right for the direction as appropriate, your motion path will be automatically adjusted to be horizontal (even if Left or Right is already set for your motion path, the act of re-selecting that option will adjust your motion path accordingly).

If you also make a note of the Y value, this is then the value that you need for any other motion path that you want to accurately align horizontally with this motion path.

Hope the above is also possible in SL3 and that it is of help to you.
