Implementing non-looping GIFs in course.

Oct 07, 2019

Hello Heroes!

I have been implementing .gif files in our courses over the past few weeks and wanted to spice things up.

Imagine the scenario:

There is an airport where either a plane lands or lifts off, depending on the state of a variable.
We illustrated this by creating 2 gifs; one where a plane lands and remains on the runway and one where the plane rides off of the runway and takes off.
These gifs are exported from Adobe Photoshop as "Loop Once" gifs, meaning that once the animation is done, it stops at the last frame as a static image.
We have done this to avoid a lot of programming on the Storyline end of the equation and because it has always worked well in other programs.

Much to our surprise when we imported the .gif files, they would not play at all.
It would remain static on the first frame and remove the transparency from the background, much like if we exported a .jpg
If we export the animation as a never-ending loop, this problem does not happen.
If we play the animation in any other program, it animates as desired.

Is this a bug in our software, or do we have to start considering implementing the animation in other ways?
Because right now, we are stuck and scratching the back of our heads.
