Initial Values of Storyline Variables

I have short bits of content (email address, phone number, URLs of external information) that get revised over the lifetime of the course.
One solution is to revise the variables in Storyline, publish the course to a SCORM package, upload it to the LMS and replace the existing course.
An easier solution would be to take advantage of SCORM "cmi.launch_data". This text string can be revised by the LMS administrator any time during the course lifecycle. It is currently unsupported by Storyline.
With a suitable syntax and Storyline support, variable initial values could be revised without having to publish and install a new course.
Any +1s to this idea?

It's a good idea. But different folks are going to have different use-cases for launch_data. You should be able to do this already using a JavaScript trigger to pull and parse a string from the data element into SL variables. Haven't tested, but I'd look at how the LMSAPI is pulling other data elements like location and suspend_data.
