Insert Quiz Question
Aug 22, 2018
I could spend an hour explaining what isn't working, but I don't know if what I'd like to do is supported.
I'm only a couple of courses into Storyline 3. I have several scenes of content, and have now decided that I want to insert a free form quiz question. (within a new scene.) The problem is that I don't know how to specify navigation. When the slide is just a slide of designed quiz content, I can navigate to the next slide w/o issue. When I conver/insert it as a free form question, then once the quiz content is Submitted, it doesn't know where to go. If this is even a possibility, it would seem some sort of additional logic is needed which I just don't know how to do.
In previous courses, I didn't have scenes defined, and I incorporated the quiz questions as I developed the course sequentially. Then I have no navigation issues. I apparently 'lucked out'. So now it seems it's either the insert aspect, or unique to having scenes.
My current plan is to make a new project, copy in slides, add the quiz at the end, continue copying in slides, add a quiz, continue copying the rest. Of course, I don't even know if that will work.
I have searched the community for a similar issue, or to even see if what I am doing is supported.
Before I snatch my head bald, any advice would be appreciated. Thank you, Judy

Hey Judy,
Thanks for reaching out and describing what you are experiencing. I think I understand :)
Have you taken a look at the layers on your slides? The Correct/Incorrect Layers Continue button probably has the triggers that you are looking for on the base layers:
If that's not it and/or I've misunderstood, please feel free to share your .story file and the slide(s) you are having trouble with and I'll be happy to take a look.
No hair loss needed.
I will check this out Leslie, thanks. I haven't dug in to layers much yet.
I did copy all the slides to a new project, no scenes, and the course is working. I want to figure this out, so will go back to my original .story file and check out the layers.
Unrelated, it's a hit or miss if I am notified of updates to a Discussion I start. I didn't see where that was a setting on my Profile.... Is that something I control?
thank you again, Judy
Hey Judith,
Sounds good, just let me know if you have any further questions.
Yes, there is a setting within your Heroes profile to be sure that you're subscribed to discussions you are a part of and you will see at the top of an individual thread if you're subscribed or wish to unsubscribe.

hi Leslie, thank you for your tip! If my navigation said 'next slide', it died. But if I put in a specific slide number, then it would go where I wanted it to. Seems to be a feature/bug of using Scenes. :-) Or more likely, user error.
And, I'm subscribed to my conversations! Judy
Hi Judy!

Hi Alyssa, so I just played around with a bunch of stuff, but I think I have had a 'duh' moment. If navigating from scene to scene, I must provide a a specific slide name/number for 'next' navigation. Correct? The issue I first brought up has nothing to do with inserting a question (other than I was unfamiliar with looking at the the correct/incorrect slide layers.) The requirement is there if using scenes, not just if they happen to be quiz questions. Since all I worked on previously was within one scene, I basically had 'dumb luck' with navigation when inserting slides. Yes? Thank you, you ladies are awesome. Judy
You got it Judy :)
It's all learning, no worries!
