Interactive Tutorial - Fill in the Blank?

Sep 13, 2013

I'm creating an interactive tutorial for our product software, but when I play it back, anything that requires the learner to type their answer, rather than click on a selection, just shows a blank text box.  Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to use fill in the blank/type response functionality in an interactive story?

It sounds like you've taken a screen recording, opted for Step-by-step slides and are using  the Try or Test modes.

As far as I'm aware, Storyline will not automatically insert fillable text boxes, it merely records your screen movements and clicks. However, you can manually add these using the Text Entry option.

From the Insert tab, navigate to the Interactive Objects, then Data Entry, and select Text Entry from the drop down.
