Issues Converting Project to Storyline 2

Jan 19, 2015

I recently converted a project built in Storyline 1 to Storyline 2.  It looks like most things converted well, but there are two items I'm having trouble with.

1)  Shapes:  For any activities built with shapes (clicking a shape displays a slide layer), I can no longer navigate to the shapes via the keyboard in the published activity.  Previously, I was able to use the TAB and ENTER keys to navigate through the slide.  Now, tabbing skips the shapes even though they are set to be visible to accessibility tools.

2)  Hotspots:  I have a few activities that include hotspots (clicking a hotspot displays a slide layer).  Previously, I was able to use the TAB and ENTER keys to navigate through the slide.  Now, tabbing skips the hotspots even though they are set to be visible to accessibility tools.

I should note that neither the shapes or hotspots are grouped in any way.

Any ideas?

Hi Maggie,

Do you have an SL1 file we could take a look at? You'll also want to confirm you're working on local project files as described here.

Also, you mentioned hotspots - but hotspot interactions aren't accessible as detailed here, because allowing the user to tab to it would indicate exactly where it is - defeating the purpose of the normal hotspot interaction.

Yes, I'm working on local project files.

I understand that hotspot activities aren't necessarily good to use for accessible courses.  In this project the hotspot acts like a link on top of an image, so it's not really an issue.  I'm just questioning why they don't function the same way in Storyline 1 and 2.

For the shape activities, I have an additional shape on the visited state (a checkmark).  This seems to be the issue.  When I remove that checkmark, I can navigate to the shape using the keyboard.  Why is that an issue in Storyline 2 but not in Storyline 1?

File is attached.

Hi Maggie,

Thanks for sharing the .story file.

In regards to the additional shape in the visited state - this is something that has been reported to our QA team for review. I'll include this thread it the existing report filed with them so that I can update you with any additional info here.

As for the hotspot, since it's documented in the 508 section, I'm guessing it didn't work as expected in Storyline 1 and therefore was updated in Storyline 2. If you need to use the "hotspot" concept, what about using a transparent shape instead?
