Kindly Answer My Questions Regarding Video+Quiz lessons

Dec 04, 2013

Hi,

I want to use articulate storyline [or quizmaker?] to merge mp4 files [video lessons] and 1 or more quizzes/exercises. Kindly answer my concerns:

-Best format to create such type of trainings [html5?] , most compatible browser(s)?

-I tested the storyline trial with mp4 video[7 mins long] + 1 quiz and tried to export in html5, it took a very long time, about 15-20 minutes [cpu= c2d e8400, 3gb ram, winxp 32-bit]. Tested the same in camtasia 8 and it took half the time. What can i do to make the process faster?

-Will my users need articulate storyline or quizmaker too to use all of the functionality?

-Best way to track and analyze their results offline? can they do themselves too?

-Since the users will not be in any one location or company, I can't use LMS.

-Can I send their results automatically via email in spreadsheet?

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. What would you recommend to use for what i want to do? Articulate storyline or Quiz maker? Which free/opensource LMS fully supports the Articulate storyline/quiz maker? I need to track many aspects of the results of the students such as:
-Number of attempts
-Elapsed time for each
-Total Elapsed time
-Time and date
-True/false, MCQs, Short Answers etc
-Ability to show hints, but quiz will then be graded with less marks

I would also like to know the best way to capture results in realtime? For this will the student be required to be connected to the internet or a locally hosted LMS? Please also provide info/link for how the LMS will integrate and extract and analyze results from Articulate?

Bear with my questions please, its the first time I am trying to create interactive trainings.  I am currently testing the trial of Articulate storyline.

Your community is awesome.
Thanks again.

Hi Am

Re the LMS side of things, you're setting your expectations pretty high if you want a free/open source platform.

There are many LMS' that will enable you to track number of accesses (provided you set the course up correctly), time per session, time/date of access and more.  But asking an LMS to report on individual answers/responses to questions is going a step further.  I don't know an LMS that (natively) does the latter as I've never had cause to find one.  If you don't find an LMS then you may be able to use variables and JavaScript to extract answers and report on them in some other way - but I don't think that is particularly straightforward (nor supported) at present.

Hi Am,

There are a number of different LMS's who can support Articulate courses, and they all have different set ups and features which you would need to review to see what fits for you. I don't know of any that are open source/free and as Simon mentioned that may be a difficult item to check off your list. I can't speak to other LMS's but you may want to look into using Articulate Online, and you can see the different reports you'd be able to pull here.

The information that Storyline will send to your LMS is detailed here, and Storyline will communicate information to an LMS in two ways, but there isn't a built in option for after each slide.

Really appreciate your help. Regarding the data transferred to an lms as mentioned in:
http://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/quiz-data-sent-to-an-lms-in-articulate-storyline

Which opensource/free lms supports all of this data? I am having these fears of switching from one lms to another
after i need more analytics, and also require an offline solution.

After researching online and on this community, it seems Moodle might be good, but not sure about the analytics/tracking bit. Please can any user help?

@Ashley, thank you very much for your continued support. Please do provide the answer if/when you get the info.

@Simon, thanks for your reply, what lms/method would you recommend for Tracking/Analyzing Quiz Results?
