Travel Game - Leaderboard questions

Jul 08, 2015

***UPDATE***

I've finally finished the first installment of my travel game.

Throughout the game the user wins 'air miles'. I'd like to feed the user score through to a leaderboard but I'm having a few issues.

The game is hosted in Moodle 1.9 on a secure server, the users have to log in to their account on our LMS to play the game.

Is there any way to bypass the Moodle security so we can have the results feed through to a public leaderboard that we would create? Or is there a way to create a leaderboard within Moodle 1.9?

Any advice or help would be really appreciated.

***INITIAL POST***

Hi,

I hope this makes sense for you all, any help would be very much appreciated!

On the left hand side of my story is a side bar with 4 images in that act as buttons. I have duplicated the side bar and the 4 images across all of my slides and scenes too, so the user can click them at any point throughout the session.

When the user clicks on all 4 images a variable is set off to show 20% session completion in the scorecard.

(I hope you're still with me...) Because the user can click these buttons in any order, across any slide/scene, is there a way to make the same button change to a 'visited' state across all of the slides/scenes regardless of which 'copy' of the button was clicked on?

I've attached a snippet of the screen so you can get an idea of how it looks.

Thanks for the reply Christie. I checked the tutorial, and it just explains about setting up master slides.

I have just tried that, but now I'm unable to change any states of the buttons on the master slide.

If the user clicks button 1 on page 1, I need button 1 to appear as visited on pages 2,3,4 & 5.

If the user clicks button 2 & 3 on page 4, I need button 1, 2 & 3 to all appear as visited, on every page that the sidebar appears on.

After lots of bodging around last night I managed to get this to work, but with only button 1. Attempting to duplicate this across 3 more buttons is going to be messy.

Is there an easier way?

Hi Christie,

Hopefully I've uploaded the file in the right way. I've just coded together Gran Canaria and Lanzarote so far. The other two islands aren't linked up so variables/states won't work.

This is the version I managed to get to work (quite messy) without using the master slide you mentioned.

Hi, James -- Thank you for sharing your file, and I would actually like to pass this to our Support Engineers for further exploration. I would be happy to create a ticket for you (I'll just need your email address, as we have more than 1 person with the name James Bonney in our system), or you can reach them directly using this form. Please let me know which would be most convenient for you.  :)

Hi, James -- Thanks for your response and I will create the ticket for you. You will be hearing from someone shortly. And I thought it wouldn't hurt for our Support folks to take a closer look for you in case they have suggestions beyond what I would be able to provide at this time. As always, we aim to provide the most complete support possible for our valued customers and community members. :)

Hi James,

I took a look at your file. You might be surprised to know your logic is working just fine. The only thing I saw was only two slides didn't have all the variable triggers.

So, only Lanzarote and Fuerteventura home slides didn't have the triggers to change the state of the Customers, Climate, Cuisine, and Flight Details buttons to visited. The other two home slides, Tenerife and Gran Canaria were both set up and worked fine for me.

I updated the two home slides with those missing triggers and everything else is all your logic!

Let us know if this solves your problem or I'm still misunderstanding. v2 .story file attached.

Hi Kevin,

Thanks for your reassurance! As you say, I managed to get 2 of the islands to work, and parked the idea to see if there was an easier way to do it, before I cracked on with the other 2 islands.

The difficult part that is missing on your version is if you clicked on cuisine on the left hand side, I want it to show as visited on every other screen in the story. It works if you click on cuisine, customer details etc, from the main screen, but if you click them from Lanzarote or Fuerteventura, the state isn't replicated across all other slides/scenes. I managed to get it to work properly for Gran Canaria.

I've got to add variables to the icons on individual islands too, so lots to still work on.

I'll keep you informed on any other brain meltdowns.

Hi Christie,

Thanks, here's a link to the first installment if anyone is interested.

I'm looking forward to hearing any suggestions about the leaderboard as I feel it will really push the competitiveness of the users.
