Losing the Ability to Copy Items (w/multiple triggers) in the New Trigger Panel

Jan 07, 2020

Hi all,

I have been exploring the new trigger workflow for SL 360 (previously I've been working in SL 3). First off kudos to Articulate, 360 seems like a major move in the right direction.

However, I have run into an issue that would effect my workflow negatively. I have noticed that when copying and pasting an existing item with multiple triggers, the triggers do not always carry over to the new object. It seems to be effected by certain types of triggers.

For example, if I had two triggers applied to a button, one that opened up Layer 1 when user clicks, and the other opening Layer 2 when user clicks, and I copy and pasted that item, those triggers would carry over.

If I slightly altered these triggers to say open Layer 1 when state of Button 1 is selected, and another set to open Layer 2 when Button 1 is selected, these triggers would not carry over. This is just an example of what I am experiencing and I have attached my working file here.

I should note that this is not an issue if I switch back to the classic trigger panel. I wanted to post this here before submitting a feature request to see if anyone is experiencing any similar issues. My hope is that this will be patched in a future update, but I am also worried that it won't be fixed before the classic trigger panel is phased out. Has there been any indication from Articulate on how long they intend to support both trigger panels in 360?

Hi Reginald,

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your file! In the new trigger panel, I was able to copy/paste the button to show layers when User clicks, and the triggers copied correctly. When I copy/pasted the button to show layers when button is Selected, it did not paste the triggers.

I switched over to the classic trigger panel and had the same experience, so there was no difference in switching out the panel.

Can you retry pasting a button with the state change triggers and share a screenshot of it using the classic trigger panel? Also, let me know what version of Storyline you are using. I'm curious if this is showing up in a different version.

Thanks, and looking forward to hearing back!

Hi Ren,

Thanks for the speedy response. I tried to respond earlier, but was receiving an error message.

I accidentally sent this out without adding the selected state to the object, which I think effected how these triggers duplicated. I have attached a new file if you'd like to take a look.

I have also attached a PDF with screenshots. You will see that the first example doesn't duplicate the triggers, but the second does.

For this example I used a fresh download of SL360, but normally I have been building in SL3.

Thanks again!

Hi Reginald,

Thanks for sharing that new file and the screenshot of what you're seeing. When I opened your new file and tried to duplicate using the new trigger panel, the triggers copied just fine.

When I built my own file from the ground up, I was unable to copy the triggers using the Selected state in either panel. It seems there are some inconsistencies with what we're both seeing, so I'm going to bring this up to my team for further testing.

I've opened a case on your behalf with our support engineers and appreciate the time you spent explaining this! Be on the lookout for a response to sort through this oddity!
