Major Bug In SL2 Trigger Conditions - no solution from support yet.

Jan 29, 2015

Maybe this will save someone from frustration and major waste of time. A support case has been created.

I've been setting up 29 slides with easily over a hundred trigger conditions in total. In the Triggers Panel the conditions on numerous triggers appears correct  ... "OR".

However - I click open the Trigger Wizard to verify and they've become "AND"s??? I'm 100% certain that was not how I set them up via the wizard. Regardless the inconsistency is a bug.

Ok, I report the bug. SL Support suggests I import everything into a new story file. No problem easy enough ...done. Great everything APPEARS in sync. AND is AND ... OR is OR, in Trigger Panel and Trigger Wizard.

Yeah! ... ugh, not.

While the conditions APPEAR consistently and correctly, not a single slide WORKS as programmed after the import "fix".

Attached are two story files with only a single slide from "before and after" the import "fix".

The logic for all slides is this:

If - ALL checkboxes are checked

AND - Text input field IS NOT blank

AND - Number input field IS NOT blank

AND - user clicks the Return Icon or Prev/Next Button

THEN - set variable completed01 equal to True

and conversely:

If - ALL checkboxes are NOT checked

OR - Text input field IS blank

OR - Number input field IS blank

AND - user clicks the Return Icon or Prev/Next Button

THEN - set variable completed01 equal to False

Yes, I can continue to use the file that works but "looks wrong" ... this is asking for trouble in the future if another author attempts to correct the hundred plus "errors" etc.

I'm now going back through each and every slide, each and every trigger, each and every condition via the Trigger Wizard and setting them all back to OR ... yet again. I they don't "stick" this time I'll resign to using what works and disregard the inconsistency in SL.

I've updated SL support that the import "fix" didn't ... will update here.

I would truly be thrilled if someone were to point out this is a "user error" and not a SL bug.

 UPDATE From SL Support:

"As of the moment, there are no other method that we can try to correct the issue, aside from manually correcting each triggers"

Doesn't matter ... any "OR" conditions I correct auto-magically turn back to "AND"s in the Trigger Wizard if you close the file and reopen it.

Conclusion: if the slide logic works totally ignore the And/Or conditions in the Trigger Wizard as it can be/is incorrect.

I'm having this issue in my SL2 file as well. I can't get it working at all.

All of my ORs change back to AND (even if I click save), so that when I go to preview or publish the slide, the answer is always wrong, even though it's right.

Attached is my file. When I click on the conditions in the trigger wizard that say "Change incorrect to selected when user clicks submit button if textarea1 != attract OR..." it shows them all as AND. I switch them all back to OR and save and exit the file and come back in and they are AND again.

Is there an update on when this might be resolved?

Thank you!

Hi Emily,

Thanks for sharing that here and our team is aware of the issue and they're looking into it. I don't have an update to share yet, but it does seem that it only impacts the way it looks not the way it behaves. One of our team shared: It looks like it's acting like an OR, even though it shows it's using AND inside the Trigger Wizard dialog. If you change it to OR and click Ok, it saves and stays that way in the Trigger Wizard window until you save the project, close, and open it again. At that point it's backing to AND.

So that would be the current workaround to ensure that everything works as expected.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for your response. I made a help ticket and the team got back to me saying they don't have a timeline for when it would be fixed or a workaround for me.

I appreciate the information you provided -- however, it doesn't work for me, as even when I follow the steps, it still always says the question is submitted incorrectly even when the answer is right. I think mine is different than the original poster's because mine is a quiz slide.

Because I had a deadline, I had to change the questions in my quiz to not use any Boolean logic and instead rely on built-in tools like drag and drop from a word bank.

I hope this gets fixed soon! I'll continue to work with the support team on this.

We are also having a similar issue - the trigger conditions change from "OR" to "AND."  Whenever we navigate away from the trigger, when we come back, it not only changes the "OR" conditions to "AND" conditions, but it only shows a difference of conditions from the trigger panels. This behavior happens frequently but not consistently.

This is beyond frustrating. As you haven't given anyone a timeline for resolving this issue can you at least tell us what Articulate is doing to resolve the problem? Is there anything we can do to escalate this issue?

HI Sarah,

This issue is with our QA team and they're continuing to investigate the cause and fixes, although I am unable to offer a timeframe or specifics. As I mentioned above, there does seem to be a way around it in the fact that:

It looks like it's acting like an OR, even though it shows it's using AND inside the Trigger Wizard dialog. If you change it to OR and click Ok, it saves and stays that way in the Trigger Wizard window until you save the project, close, and open it again. At that point it's backing to AND.

Hopefully that'll work for you. If you're seeing some different behavior, we're always happy to take a look at your file to be able to share additional information and examples with our team. You can share it here or send along to our Support Engineers here.
