Motion path keeps returning to the initial positon

Apr 23, 2015

I am trying to set up a motion path to go from point A to point B. Each time I preview the slide the object does go from point A to point B and then back to point A. How do I make it remain at point B?

I am using Storyline 2.

Definitely need a bit more information to answer this question. One thing you can check would be the triggers associated with the object, is there more than one? When adding a motion path, a trigger from point a to b will be added by default. Did you try to create an additional trigger to make this action happen? Is the object's motion associated with another object?

It looks like there is only one trigger and one motion path. However, I don't see how to "remove" a motion path. I've deleted the item I attached the motion path to. Then re-added the item and the path. I've even moved the item to a new location to make sure the old motion path does not exist.

Thanks for the suggestions. Please keep them coming.

Here's another piece to the puzzle.

I removed the motion path. Then, I re-applied the motion path. I did not move the end point. I just took the default end point and the default trigger.

I previewed the slide and it works. It goes from Point A to Point B.

Then, I moved the end point to the position I want it to go. I don't change anything else. Did not touch the trigger. There is only one trigger on the slide.

Now when I preview the slide, it bounces from A to B to A.

Are you able to share the .story file? Or save this specific element separately to share?

To remove a motion path, simply click the red arrow and hit the "delete" key. That should remove the path and any triggers associated.

Is there an animation associated with this object? Is it possible you're seeing an animation at the beginning of it's timeline, then the motion path?

Ah, I see. The issue is that you are triggering a hotspot to activate another layer. Technically, this layer is above the base layer so when the object hovers over the hotspot, your mouse is no longer over the hotspot. I've attached a quick work around. It makes your base layer a little more busy but it gets the job done. The object (badge) is set intially to hidden and triggered to change state to normal when the hotspot is hovered over. This also triggers the motion path when the timeline of the object starts. I've left the explanation on the Badge layer so it doesn't get in the way when working. Hope this helps!

Michael, that also seems like a great solution. The only issue I've noticed is that when you move the mouse, even within the hotspot, it starts to motion path again.
