Multiple Files with Same Title in Storyline (Desktop) Software
Oct 04, 2016
This may be a totally ridiculous question, but why are there multiple files (projects) with the same name showing up when I open the Articulate software? I've made revisions to the original project file, saved and published, yet when I open the software, there are now three "versions" of the file displayed in the left menu. I have been "assuming" (always dangerous, as we all know) that the file at the top of the list was the most recent version, but now it seems that some things that were changed are not showing up in that version. I'm deathly afraid to delete any of the additional files, as I don't want to lose any of the hours of work I've spent on revisions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Right click and choose "Remove from List"; removes from the panel without touching the underlying files
Hi Cindy!
Looks like Brian has popped in to assist you here. I have not seen this behavior in my software. You are not versioning the software yourself I assume and sounds like it may be happening with different project files?
We just had a new update today, be sure to download the latest update, which is Update 11, which will also repair your software.
Hi Brian!
But the question remains as to if they are all the same version (most updated) and if so, why are they showing up multiple times? Please see attached for illustration.
Hi Leslie!
Thanks for the info. I've downloaded the Articulate Updater and it just scanned my files and indicated no updates. Does it also scan the software/program itself?
You downloaded Update 11? That is an update to the actual software. Any of the included updates would then be applied to your projects when you worked on them as well as any previous projects that you choose to re-publish.
I did download the update, then ran the "Updater" tool, which apparently just searches published files, as it scans any drives I indicate. Do I have that correct? Sorry for the lack of technical understanding; I just want to make sure I understand the mechanics! :-)
Hi Cindy!
The updater was specific to HTML5 Content working in Chrome 44 and later as you can read about here. That would scan files only.
No worries! I think we were just speaking a different language :)
Thanks, Leslie. :-)
OK, one more quick question: why is it that after an update, I get the "Free Trial" message when I open the software?
Hi Cindy - No worries, it gets us all (even me). This is expected and if you click to Activate/Register your system probably even remembers your serial number :)
Thanks again! Good to know!! (It's always the little tricks that keep us sane, right?!)
You assume we are sane?! How kind of you :)
Glad I was able to assist Cindy.
Doubling back a bit. The History Panel is just that; a shortcut to recently loaded files. The SL folks know the number of slots, but I think it's four or five; think stock ticker. The program looks to fill all spots, rolling things off the bottom after the slots are filled.
SL could be a bit smarter and peak at the list before adding another copy of the same name. Then again we'd be forced to uniquely name our projects instead of "Client Project.story" :) I'm sure the SL folks would welcome a product improvement suggestion.
Ok, this makes complete sense and eases my mind a great deal! My dad was a carpenter and always taught me to "measure twice, cut once", and I'm always cautious about that "delete" function!
Maybe a last revised date extension on the file icon/name would be helpful? I suppose that could get confusing also, however. If I come up with anything brilliant I'll contract as an SL consultant and sell it for big bucks! :-0
Thanks for your help. You guys are always quick to respond and very patient!
Haha! Glad you were able to get the assistance you needed Cindy :)
