No autoplay audio without interaction

Jun 14, 2021

For accessibility, I need to have every audio require the user to click play, but I want to do it without using a layer if possible?  Is there a default player setting to make this happen?  I would prefer not to create a "play" button/trigger on the slide.

Hello Roxanne,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you would like to create within your project file.

WCAG 1.4.2 requires that any audio that plays automatically must have a way to pause or stop the audio. I'd recommend including the Seekbar in your Player Properties:

Choosing Player Controls

If you'd prefer to have interaction from the learner before audio playing, you can set this up a couple of ways:

  1. Add a trigger to pause the timeline when the timeline starts, which will require the learner to click play.
  2. Add a button to trigger any audio on the slide.

I didn't really want to add another button to the slide. With Jaws software, that is another thing on screen to hear each time and it really clutters it up. I was hoping there was a player setting that might work. Most folks that use adaptive software for visual impairment find that having audio (or video) auto-start is very hard to manage because the program is already starting to read the page so you get 2 audio experiences simultaneously.

Haw'aa (Thank you)

Hi Roxanne!

We don't currently have a way to configure this by using just the Player. I'm looking forward to seeing if other community members have recommendations!

Also, your contact information came through as well. This Peek video will show you how to edit it out if you’d like!
