Offline - External files not opening

I'm having some problems that didn't seem to occur in the past - when publishing offline, when a user opens a link to an external Word file (tucked away inside external_files), Internet Explorer is opening for a split second then closing. The user never gets the chance to download the file. 

Is this something new? As I'd previously managed to do it fine, with the user getting the document straight from the published exe.

Any help on this matter would be great, as I have a very anxious client.

Sounds like you're publishing for CD, correct? 

Does the file name contain any special characters (spaces, underscores, etc.)? If so, try removing that and reinserting the hyperlink to the file with the new name. 

If that doesn't help, can you share a little more information about how you're linking to the document in the course? Are you using the resourses tab, a button, etc.?
