Options for Further Education

May 05, 2020

Hello!

I am reasonably new to an elearning design role (before now,  it was just a bolt on to another role but now I'm taking it seriously!), and I was wondering what experiences the community has had when looking at additional study.

I have read the some people have found graphic design and marketing as useful areas, and others have focused on elearning-specific courses, but I am a little lost on where to start. I feel like I am picking my options at school again, and not sure where I would get most benefit.

My history has been a blend of training, compliance and management development, but I seem to be reasonably ok at learning systems - so I'm not a techy by any stretch!

What kind of courses have you found that you get the most from?

Are there courses that are wide-ranging and most suitable for someone who has been winging it for a while?

What are the questions I am not asking?

I think I need a lie down...

Hi Chris!

You came to the right place for suggestions! I'm excited to see what our community members recommend.

I wanted to hop in and share a few resources that help spark inspiration:

  • ELH Downloads Page
    • I love our Downloads page! There are so many examples built by community members that you can open in Storyline 360. You can see how these interactions were created and potentially find ways to recreate them in other courses!
  • Building Better Courses Forums
    • This forum is filled with design ideas and inspiration!!
  • E-Learning Design Challenges
    • Our Community Managers here at Articulate host challenges where designers can submit their creative take on specific interactions! I love seeing the different approaches.

I hope this offers a bit of guidance on places to look for further education!
