Arrrgh! I cannot locate the folder with my original authoring files, including the story. I have all the output files, is there a way to convert the output back into a story format?
I don't think so :( There would probably be a security / theft issue if this was possible. Can you create a backup of your computer and then roll back to an instance where it may still be there?
Hi Petra! Looks like you are getting some valuable information here on trying to recover your file, because there is not a way to convert them back. I hope that one of these suggestions will assist you.
As Ashley said, looks like you've got some good advice here (and welcome!). Also, though, have you searched your entire hard drive for *.story by any chance? Just a thought before you roll back or recover. I've occasionally found my files (after initial panic and not necessarily Storyline) in the oddest places (and no one to blame but myself).
Is there a way to convert published Storyline 2 files back? I accidentally deleted my .story file. I'm searching for it using R-studio, but so far nothing.
there is no way to recover from the published output but you could try looking in your temp files.
1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
This last piece of advice just saved my butt. I inadvertantly deleted the master of a project (no idea how) and I was looking at some major rebuilding. I located the file in appData, changed the extension and there it was. Thank you Wendy!

Sorry, there is no way to convert the output files back into .story files.
I suggest you try Matthew's suggestion.
No Petra, it's quite impossible.
But it sould be easy to find your original .story file, even if you deleted it.
recovery tools, like R-Studio, or Active File Recovery... do not panic and have your PC checked.

Good luck.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
Hope that helps
