Pages VS Layers Best Practice

Mar 17, 2015

Hi Everybody,

Long-time lurker first time poster.

My apologies if this has been asked before (I couldn't find it on google), but is there a best practice for choosing between displaying content on a new layer or a new slide?

Sometimes it's very clear, like if you want elements from the base slide to show through or if you want a results slide, but other times it feels very arbitrary to choose one over the other.

Does one load faster or more reliably then the other? I've done a few tests, but the results have so far been inconclusive.

What do you think? Is it always better to use a base slide and lots of layers, or are separate slides superior? Or are there any rules at all?

Hi Craig, and welcome to Heroes!

The question of slide vs. layer is actually something that came up during a recent AMA with  Tom Kuhlmann and one of our Community team members wrote up the following to help walk you and others through the options.

Hopefully other community members chime in here as well to share their expertise and what they have found works best for them.
