Passing Data to and from Storyline

I'd like to track user completion of a Storyline course using our database.

At the time of Login through a web portal, I’d like to pass data (residing in a SQL database) such as a unique ID along with first name and last name.  Upon completion of the e-learning course, I’d like to pass back to the web portal (to update the SQL database) a completion flag along with the unique ID, first name, and last name.

Does anyone know if and how this is possible?
