Player Color Scheme Issue with Closed Caption Button

Sep 07, 2017

Hi All,

I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to fix an issue with a custom color scheme for a player in a project I'm working on.

When the Closed Caption button in the player is toggled on, the entire button turns white - since my player background is white, this renders it invisible.

In the advanced color editor, both Button >> Down Background and Button >> Hover Background are set to a color that is not white.

I created the custom player and color scheme prior to the release of the closed captioning feature, so I'm not sure if that's part of the problem. But mostly, I think I  just can't figure out which Advanced Color Editor item corresponds to the CC button when it is toggled on.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

Hi Wendy,

Thanks for your help! Changing the icon color does help to some extent, since it makes the icon visible when the button is toggled on, but the background of the button still turns white (matching the player background), so it still looks pretty weird.

For now, I'll keep trying to guess what controls the toggled button background and let everyone know if I figure it out!

Hi Jessie,

Did you look into the Button>Normal Background (or Button>Down Background and Hover Background)?  Those should help with the background color and how it's behaving when the user clicks on it (the down state).  Here's the Storyline 360 player colors chart in case that helps you too.

I have a very similar problem - I have played around with the colours as discussed above but no no avail!  When I check my player, I can see the caption button but when I preview, I can see the sound button but no CC button, it is not even hidden as there is no change to the cursor when you hover over it - can you help please?

Thanks

Hi Diane!

Do you have the captions button enabled in the Player Properties?

If so, then you'll see the button when there are captions available on the current slide or layer. If no captions are available, the button will disappear. This is a visual indicator for learners so they know which slides have captions and which don't.

When the closed captioning button is visible, meaning there are captions available on the current slide or layer, learners only need to click it to turn the captions on or off.

Let me know if that helps!

But his must be a bug? When publishing to HTML5, the Caption button's active state inherits the color of Tab -> Selected Background.

My tab background color is light grey and I don't want that color on the active captions button. With that color it is almost invisible on some monitors.

Or have I misunderstood something?

Thanks
