I'm trying to import a PPT into Storyline 3 and I keep getting the "failed to import" error. It provides a link to troubleshoot, but I still can't pinpoint the issue. I am currently on a trial version - does that make a difference? Others who have licensed Storyline 3 do not have this issue.
Welcome, Andrea! Happy to help you find the culprit.
Being on a trial of Storyline 3 shouldn't make a difference. It could be that there's something corrupt on one of your PowerPoint slides.
To check, try importing 3-5 slides at a time. This will help you nail down the troublesome slide. We can lend a hand if you'd like! Share the PowerPoint file with us privately here, and we'll take a look.
I am having the same issue as Andrea Smith. I have the trial version and I am unable to import my PPT. I have tried all the trouble shooting options and I created a new PPT. Can you help me?
I'm having the same error - failed to import when using a plain just TEXT ppt slide. It's on the hard drive, no sound or graphics . . . PPT and Storyline are both up to date on updates. Running latest office 64-bit 365 app
Hello there, Ana. I'd love to lend a hand with this roadblock!
Storyline 360 works with 32-bit and 64-bit desktop versions of Office 2010 and later, but it isn't compatible with:
Office 365 web apps
Office 365 mobile apps
Click-to-run versions of Office 2010
I used the latest update of Storyline 360 to import the sample file: Here's a quick snapshot of my test! To help us explore further, is your version of PowerPoint installed locally on your computer?
I didn't have any issues importing the PowerPoint into Storyline 360, so that might be the barrier.
Lastly, are you saving the .ppt file to your local drive before importing? If it's on a server or external location then it would not import appropriately.
I appreciate you working through these initial troubleshooting steps. It seems there may be other issues that are causing this error, so I've opened a case on your behalf with one of our support engineers to help you figure this out!
Be on the lookout for a response soon, and I'll follow along to share any relevant insight here!
My computer was upgraded to the latest version and upgrade to Office 360. Prior to the upgrade from Windows 7 I was able to import my powerpoint presentations. Now I get a fail to import error as stated above. I even used the attached test presentation. Can you assist me? IT even added the newest update.
I see that Chester sent troubleshooting steps your way. If those still don't do the trick, I encourage you to continue working with Chester so we can find a fix.
I have the same issue using a registered copy of Storyline 3. I followed the help sheet provided online and cannot pinpoint the issue. Both PPT and Art are up-to-date versions. I was able to import 1 of the 5 powerpoints successfully. I ran Storyline as Administrator even though my PPT is not set to run as Admin. It worked for that 1 PPT and only once. After attempting to import the other 4, I went back and tried to import the first again. Failed every time. I did try the method of importing only 5 slides. Still no luck. A couple of other helpful bits of info -- my PowerPoints save as *.pptx - Is that a possible issue? Also, I tried the import at work (on a network connection) and at home (personal wifi), same issue in both locations. Lastly, sometimes I get the Failed message and sometimes it starts to import, but the progress bar freezes indefinitely. Any thoughts appreciated.
I appreciate you sharing the error that you are experiencing when importing your PowerPoint to Storyline 3. Interesting that the behavior is inconsistent for you.
If you continue to run into errors, please share your .pptx with our support engineers to investigate what's happening with your permission. You can share it privately by uploading it here. It will be deleted when troubleshooting is complete.
Thank you, I had tried the steps on the help guide prior. One ppt imported successfully. The other, same size, same format, different content did not. I will share the failed one to the link. Thank you

Hello Tomicka and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)
We certainly can.
I see that Katie reached out to you yesterday with some helpful documentation and a link to upload your file for us to take a look.
Hi Leslie - I uploaded my PPT file and I am waiting on a response. Currently, I am unable to import my PPTs.
Thanks, Tomicka.
Is it still uploading? I'm not seeing a file attached to your case yet. Be sure to use the upload link that Katie shared with you.
Hi Leslie - I uploaded the file.
Thanks, Tomicka :)
Hi Leslie - Were you able to see the file I uploaded? Also, will there be an update regarding this issue by next week?
Hi there, Tomicka!
Yikes, it looks like the PowerPoint still hasn't come through. Here's the unique, private upload link from the case, and here's a quick recording of the upload process in Chrome 79!
Could you try sending the file in one more time? Also, what browser are you using? We'll be here, ready to help!

Click to run of office 365.
Yes, office is installed locally on a Windows 7 machine.
IT has reinstalled .net framework 4.7, MS visual studio 2019 Redistributable but we still get same error.
Thanks,
IT and Ana
Also have repaired office. Full online repair.
Hi Ana!
Are you running PowerPoint as an administrator? Here's how to make that change.
I didn't have any issues importing the PowerPoint into Storyline 360, so that might be the barrier.
Lastly, are you saving the .ppt file to your local drive before importing? If it's on a server or external location then it would not import appropriately.
Yes running as administrator doesn't make a difference.
The PPT files are locally on machine. No network share.
Thanks,

Hi Sherry,
Thanks for reaching out, and great call to get that case started! It looks like my teammate, Chester, reached back out with next steps.
Be sure to keep at it with him and let him know if they helped!
It still will not import PPTs any other suggestions?
