PPT not importing into Storyline 3

Apr 18, 2019

Hi Everyone!

I'm trying to import a PPT into Storyline 3 and I keep getting the "failed to import" error. It provides a link to troubleshoot, but I still can't pinpoint the issue. I am currently on a trial version - does that make a difference? Others who have licensed Storyline 3 do not have this issue.

Any info is appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome, Andrea! Happy to help you find the culprit.

Being on a trial of Storyline 3 shouldn't make a difference. It could be that there's something corrupt on one of your PowerPoint slides.

To check, try importing 3-5 slides at a time. This will help you nail down the troublesome slide. We can lend a hand if you'd like! Share the PowerPoint file with us privately here, and we'll take a look.

Hi there, Tomicka!

Yikes, it looks like the PowerPoint still hasn't come through. Here's the unique, private upload link from the case, and here's a quick recording of the upload process in Chrome 79!

Could you try sending the file in one more time? Also, what browser are you using? We'll be here, ready to help!

Hello there, Ana. I'd love to lend a hand with this roadblock!

Storyline 360 works with 32-bit and 64-bit desktop versions of Office 2010 and later, but it isn't compatible with:

    • Office 365 web apps
    • Office 365 mobile apps
    • Click-to-run versions of Office 2010

I used the latest update of Storyline 360 to import the sample file: Here's a quick snapshot of my test! To help us explore further, is your version of PowerPoint installed locally on your computer?

Hi Ana!

Are you running PowerPoint as an administrator? Here's how to make that change.

I didn't have any issues importing the PowerPoint into Storyline 360, so that might be the barrier.

Lastly, are you saving the .ppt file to your local drive before importing? If it's on a server or external location then it would not import appropriately.

My computer was upgraded to the latest version and upgrade to Office 360.  Prior to the upgrade from Windows 7 I was able to import my powerpoint presentations.  Now I get a fail to import error as stated above.  I even used the attached test presentation.  Can you assist me?  IT even added the newest update.

It still will not import PPTs any other suggestions?

I have the same issue using a registered copy of Storyline 3. I followed the help sheet provided online and cannot pinpoint the issue. Both PPT and Art are up-to-date versions. I was able to import 1 of the 5 powerpoints successfully. I ran Storyline as Administrator even though my PPT is not set to run as Admin. It worked for that 1 PPT and only once. After attempting to import the other 4, I went back and tried to import the first again. Failed every time. I did try the method of importing only 5 slides. Still no luck.    A couple of other helpful bits of info -- my PowerPoints save as *.pptx - Is that a possible issue?  Also, I tried the import at work (on a network connection) and at home (personal wifi), same issue in both locations. Lastly, sometimes I get the Failed message and sometimes it starts to import, but the progress bar freezes indefinitely. Any thoughts appreciated.
