There isn't a way to prevent the smartphone keyboard from automatically displaying on screen when the focus is shifted to the text entry input box. I believe the smartphone keyboard is automatically called whenever there is a need to accept user text input, and clicking or tapping on a text entry input box on your phone is one such event.
There might be a way to do this using third-party solutions, so I'll defer to the community on a possible solution for this one.
