Problems With Beginning Timeline Triggers in HTML5 (iOS & Android)

Jan 27, 2016

I've read this article:

https://www.articulate.com/support/storyline/triggers-that-execute-when-timeline-starts-or-ends-dont-work-as-expected

...but has anyone else experienced this: I find that if sound is to start when a slide timeline starts, the sound doesn't always execute.  To render some stability, I've had to utilize buttons to manually trigger sound.

The more frustrating one is Results Reset: to allow multiple attempts on a quiz I usually have this as a starting timeline trigger attached to the slide itself (not an object), but if you try this on iOS or Android it will create blank pages and everything will hang.  I've had to do the opposite of what the article suggests: put the trigger on an object.

However, timeline start triggers (especially the Results Reset one) is perfectly functional on desktop.

Hi Alexander,

Are you using Storyline 1 or Storyline 2? The article you linked was Storyline 1, so just in case I wanted to link to the Storyline 2 article here. As for "reset results" are you using that in conjunction with a results slide? Typically it's connected with a retry button or similar so it sounds like something we'd want to take a look at to confirm the set up you're using and how it's behaving. You'll also want to make sure that if you are using Storyline 1, to note we support viewing on the following setups (not Android) and Storyline 2 on the set ups here.  Lastly, with any of the set ups you'll want to work on the latest update of Storyline, the iOS/OS and browsers.

If you'd like us to take a look you can include your .story file here using the "add attachment" button or send it along to our team here.

The problem is I cannot just have Reset Results on the Quiz Retry button.  You'll see that this course is not linear and the user has to be able to redo the Quiz if they completely exit the Exam section and go back in.  If you don't put a Reset Results trigger on the slide before Question 1 starts up again, the user cannot redo the question and the slide automatically goes into review mode and brings up the Next and Back buttons which ruins the interface.

Currently the Reset Results trigger is on the slide previous to Question 1 and linked to the Continue button.  But if you were to transfer that trigger to the Slide itself as the top trigger, you'll see that no mobile platform will be able to load the slide, you'll just get a blank.  However, it will still work on desktop.
