Project invalid or corrupt

May 25, 2017

Spent quite a considerable amount of time on this project only to have 'This project is invalid or corrupt' appear out of the blue.

I have searched for a solution and nothing is working.  I have invested some serious time on this project only to have it wasted at the last minute by some bug in the program.

We have to save our work on a drive as that is where our employer wants us to save it.  Never had any issues before until now.

Have tried to load previous versions but no luck, is there any other way to recover this?

Is this an ongoing issue? And if it is, why is it still occurring?

Hi there Dan,

I'm so sorry you've run into this! I know that's frustrating, given all the time you already spent on the file. Working from a network drive can cause file corruption, so I would use it only for backup purposes. You'll want to avoid re-opening the file until you've moved it back to your local hard drive.

You mentioned that you tried loading previous versions, but have you checked your temp files yet? There may still be a working version there. Here's a quick Peek at how to find them:

Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

  1. Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
  2. Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
  3. Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

File corruption can happen, even in the best software, and even if you’re following all the recommended best practices. To be ready if it happens, follow these tips

Hi Alyssa,

Many thanks for the links.  I managed to recover the file from my temp folder.   Great and easy to follow tutorial video.  I only lost voice overs that were added yesterday.  Easy fix!

I have shared this with my co-workers in the event that this occurs again.

Once again, many thanks! great service! You guys have made my Friday bearable now :-)

Cheers

Dan
