Question about object in a trigger

Nov 20, 2012

Hi,

Setting up a trigger on a page. Want to display a layer when a variable is > 0 (indicating this is the second time the learner has hit this page... the variable is set to 1 on the next page).

I get what the object is if the "When" is "User clicks" (for example a button), but what is the object if the "When" is "Timeline starts"? Does it matter? My interaction is acting funky and I think this may be the issue.

Also the same issue on the page where I set the variable to 1.

Again, what is the object if the when is timeline starts?

Thanks for the help. John.

Hi John,

The object is whatever you're wanting the trigger to activate upon the timeline starting of. For instance, if you set the object to be the slide itself, the trigger will fire when the timeline starts for the slide itself. If you set the object to be something on the slide (i.e. text box, shape, etc), then the trigger will fire when the timeline starts for that particular object. Let's say you want a trigger to fire at the 5 second mark of the timeline, which corresponds to when a text box appears. If you set the trigger to be "timeline starts" for the object of "text box", then it will fire when the timeline for the text box starts (the 5 second mark).

One other thing you might want to check for your situation is the slide properties to see what the resume state is set at.

Hope this helps you out!
