Questions dissapear

Mar 01, 2013

Has anyone else been adding questions to a question bank in Storyline, saved it, made sure it was saved, and then the next morning when you open your story file, the last 8 questions you entered disappear?

We that happened last night into this morning.  Any idea what could have happened.  Its a little freaky and makes one leery to continue on. I've been searching the forum and have not been able to find any other posts about it.

Hi Adam,

I can't say I've experienced that, no. I agree it does sound a little freaky. Out of curiosity, are you saving your project files to your local hard drive?

1.  Work on your local drive (your C: drive). Working on a network drive or a USB drive can cause erratic behavior, including file corruption, loss of audio, and other unexpected behavior.

2. You should also make sure the directory path to your project files and your published output is less than 260 characters (for example C:\Articulate).

3.  Avoid using special characters, accents or symbols in your file names.

Hi Bruce!

Oh how I wish I could answer that question I can totally relate. Even though I tend to be extremely overly organized with my files and file paths, I also end up with some pretty extensive ones. I honestly think it's more of a physical limit, but it's more of an opinion than anything One of these days when I'm a super genius, I may be able to answer that - but at the moment, I'm honestly just not sure.

Wish I could give you some helpful information, Bruce! If someone has some enlightening information, I'd be interested in it, too.

Hi Christine and Bruce,

It's been a long time since I've done Windows training, but my memory is that those are Windows limitations. Just quickly Googled and came up with this:

Maximum Path Length Limitation

In the Windows API (with some exceptions discussed in the following paragraphs), the maximum length for a path is MAX_PATH, which is defined as 260 characters.
