Quiz Results Layers are not displaying correctly

Nov 14, 2021

I need to set up a one question acknowledgement question for a course which was SUPER easy to do in Studio. I am tearing my hair out trying to convert these to Storyline.  I don't need question level feedback or to show a score. Either they say yes to pass or no to fail.  I noticed when I added the Results slide, it did not automatically put the variable in for me to " show layer". It came up "unassigned". I messed around with a few options and I can't get it to show anything but the Success layer. I've browsed all related discussions and watched the Quiz video, but don't see a discussion around how the Quiz triggers work to see what I might be doing wrong Help. :(

Hi, Shannon,

If you don't want immediate feedback on a quiz slide, set the Feedback option to None. That will automatically delete the feedback layers.

As for your Results slide: Did you import it from Studio?  FYI:  It doesn't work to import or duplicate a Results slide. You need to insert a new Results slide to get Storyline to create the appropriate built-in variables.

After you create a new Results slide, you can delete the text boxes that show scoring info. Even when they're not shown to the user, Storyline will still determine the score and show the appropriate layer (Failure or Success).

Hello,

Thank you for your quick response. I got the immediate feedback bit figured out, but for the results slide, I had originally imported it from the PPT that was tied Studio, but when it didn’t work, I deleted it and re-created it. After messing with it, more I decided to delete it and re-create it again. Still not working. I wonder if I will need to re-create it in a new file? I hope not ☹

Hi again, Shannon,

Hard to say why inserting a new Results slide isn't working for you. That's the sort of issue for which I usually save and close the file, quit Storyline, and then restart. Sure, that shouldn't be needed, but it sometimes seems to clear things up when Storyline gets confused.  :-)

Well that didn't work,  so in future I will not bring an old Studio file into Storyline because it seems to be permanently bugged.  So, I had to create a new project, created the acknowledgement and results slide and it worked fine. Then,  I imported the course slides which created a new scene.  Thank you for helping me determine that there wasn't anything I was actually doing wrong.
