There is a tutorial here that deals with buttons; the concepts apply to radio buttons as well. Radio buttons are often used in Button sets, here is a tutorial for that.
How can I get the buttons to appear as "empty" or "not chosen" yet when the user begins? I cannot get them to appear not chosen when the user first begins the course. It looks as though one radio button will already be marked when the user begins the course.
Did you insert a multiple choice question slide? In that case, the correct answer choice will be shown as selected in Slide View. But, when you preview or publish all radio buttons will initially be shown as unselected (blank).
