Recovering Invalid or Corrupt

I found some older threads, but thought would post again since what I found was from 11 years ago.  Does anyone have experience opening 'Invalid or Corrupt' .story files?  I have tried all of the avenues to attempt to recover it (saving as new title, looking for 'previous versions', creating a new file and importing old file, etc.).  Is there anything else I can try?

Kati,

I think a lot of it depends on the age of the files and how corrupt they are. I have had good luck saving to a new file name, but most of mine are within 2 to 3 months old. If you have an extra old computer, you might try installing an old version of Articulate and then try opening them.

 

Good luck, maybe a staff member may help. May be try submitting a help request. I think I was able to send one to Articulate and they recovered it for me.

Hi Kati,

I'm sorry but the project file that you shared can no longer be recovered. However, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
