Resumed Save Not Working on Survey Question

Apr 22, 2024

Hi there,

I have essay-type surveys in my course. The slide has Resumed Save State turned on, but when a user goes back to review the slide, the box says "Type your text here." They are unable to since they've already submitted, but why are they not able to see what they have typed?

Hi Morgan,

I couldn't replicate the described behavior. Typically, with 'Resume saved state,' you shouldn't be able to type again, but the text-entry field should retain its value nonetheless. If the slide is set to 'Reset to initial state,' you should be able to overwrite whatever was typed there the first time. Could there be something else resetting the text-entry value back to its default?

Hi Nedim. I think I figured it out. I was importing Survey Essay Questions from other SL files and adding in new content in them from that. And it appears in all my tests that the entry box that comes with it in the triggers does not actually exist. What's also weird is the name of the text entry object on the timeline does not match the trigger name, so the solution I have found is to create a new Survery Essay in each project and copy/paste the content, leaving only the newly created text entry box with its new trigger item. It seems you cannot import the text entry box (nor can you copy it). I would recommend a fix to this so that I don't have a bunch of text entry fields in the triggers that don't exist in the actual project and that they highlight like other objects when you're creating a trigger. The only way I could test them was to publish, hence why I just inserted a new Survey Essay and built it from scratch.
