#Scene.ElapsedTime

Dec 17, 2021

Hi, I can't figure out how I work with the time spent variables in Storyline.
I've looked at several tutorials but I can't get over them.
Is anyone kind enough to explain it to me from scratch?
Articulate how do you understand how much time has passed?

Hi, Samantha.

Thank you for reaching out!

When you add a reference to one of the new elapsed time variables (Slide.ElapsedTime, Scene.ElapsedTime, Project.ElapsedTime), they will show in milliseconds.

If you want to show the time in seconds, you need to assign it to a new variable, then divide that variable by 1000:

Let me know if this helps or if you're looking to do something different with those variables.

Hi, thank you for your reply.
I would need to let the students visualize the time that passes.
Ex: the course must be one hour long and I wish they could see, some kind of timer, all the time, so they can know how long it is to '' completion '' of the course.
In case you could also put it, is the course completed when the elapsed time is 1 hour?
I just can't figure out how to do this with time variables

Hi, Samantha.

In the example above, I showed the time to the learner, using a reference to Slide.ElapsedTime. You can switch it to Scene.ElapsedTime or Project.ElapsedTime for what you're trying to achieve.

If you want to show minutes instead of seconds, divide the variable by 60000 (instead of 1000).

For additional information, and also to see how to complete the course after a certain time has passed, take a look at this article

I hope this helps!
