We are using screen capture to demonstrate a piece of software. Every "screen" is duplicated, i.e., one screen image on top of another. This is very distracting! Is there some setting that we need to change to avoid this?
It sounds like you're using the screen recording feature of Storyline? When you choose to insert it, are you using Video on a single slide or Step by Step slides? The Step by step recordings should split each click, scroll, or user interaction onto their own slides, whereas the video would show everything appearing on one slide and without needing any user interaction.
We are inserting "view mode" step-by-step slides. They are properly split across slides - but the background (the screen itself) is duplicated - sometimes multiple times! Please see the attached for examples. Thank you!
Hey there, Debi. Thanks for the details and the file! I can see you're using a custom story size of 1412 x 876. We're seeing duplicate screen recording "backgrounds" when your recording is smaller than the story size, and your desktop display scaling is set to 125%.
Does that sound like it matches your setup? Could you test a small re-recording with 100% scaling on your screen? You can change the scaling to 100% (or 96 DPI) by right clicking on your Windows desktop and choosing "Display Settings."
Need help as Every "screen" is duplicated, i.e., one screen image on top of another. This is very distracting! Is there some setting that we need to change to avoid this?
Thank you for letting us know that you tried the steps listed previously! I'm sorry they didn't work for you. I'd recommend starting a case with our Support Engineers, who will look at your file and see what change needs to be made. You can reach them in a support case.
I received this from your team. But, it isn't helping.
Hi Stefanie,
Thanks so much for letting us know about this issue.
I was able to replicate this in a new project file, so I’ve logged it as a possible software bug.
The issue seems to happen if (a) DPI is set to higher than 100% (b) the recording size is smaller than the slide size (c) when inserting as View Mode.
Please try to record using a 100% DPI as a workaround.
From here, I’ll meet with my team to take a closer look so we can determine next steps. Sometimes my team catches errors in my logic and we don’t have a bug after all. Of course, if that’s the case, I’ll let you know!
Hi Stephanie! I apologize for the continued issues you are having. It looks like you are working with our support engineer Ronaziel, so you are in good hands.
I want to ask a couple of follow-up questions to clarify what you mean by the response not helping:
Did you try the workaround, and it didn't work? (Referring to Please try to record using a 100% DPI)
Did you respond to Ronaziel in the case if the workaround didn't work?
If you have additional questions, it's always best to reach out in the case so our knowledgeable support engineers can assist you further. I can follow along in case you need more help!

Does that help? If not, I'd like to take a look at your .story file to test further!

Let me know what you think!
Literally followed what Crystal had mentioned and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much!
I followed what Crystal had mentioned and it is not working.

Hi! While I record, screen is duplicated on top of the recorded screen only during View mode.
Hello Stefanie!
I'm happy to help! Can you share your .story file with us? You can attach it to this discussion or upload it privately in a support case.

Hi, Stefanie.
Thank you for sharing the .story file!
I was able to reproduce the issue, so I went ahead and opened a support case with our engineers. You should hear from our team soon via e-mail.
Hi Maria,
Do you have an update for me on the issue? I am still facing the same issue when I try to record a Show Me.
I received this from your team. But, it isn't helping.
