Screen readers, keyboard controls, and various interactions

Oct 22, 2021

I've been testing out different interactions and how they function with keyboard controls and screen readers. I've come across some issues I can't seem to resolve.

First slide: the sentence "Click through each number to learn more" is not being read despite being first in the focus order. I've tried it using both the up down arrows and the tab key.

Second slide: the screen reader does not read the text on the selected state.

Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you!

as you have prevent user from clicking on the base layer this stops anything on the base layer showing in th focus order for the screen readers not sure why you have designed it that way, a more elegant design is to have two buttons on the base layer and then just the text on the layers using a selected state and button sets. The attached file is set up correctly and will read in a screen reader.

Hello, Phil. I originally designed it like you suggested, but I was having problems with the screen reader and focus order on the additional slide layers. It was suggested in another thread to disable users from clicking on the base layer to prevent screen readers from reading from the base layer when the layer was open.
